Thailand has approved a visa-rule overhaul that would remove Moroccan passport holders from the 60-day visa-free scheme once the new measures are published. The Cabinet approved the revision on May 19, 2026, but the government says the change will only start 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette.

## What changed

The Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat says Moroccan nationals have been entitled to 60-day visa exemption for tourism, business engagements or urgent work since July 15, 2024. Under the new framework, Thailand will no longer use one blanket 60-day exemption for 93 countries and territories. Instead, the official summary shows a 30-day list, a 15-day list and a visa-on-arrival list, and Morocco does not appear in any of those categories.)

## Who is affected

The change is aimed at ordinary Moroccan passport holders planning short stays in Thailand. In practical terms, Moroccan citizens should expect to need a visa before travel once the new rules are in force.

## When it takes effect

The Cabinet approval is not the final step. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Ministry of Interior notices must be published in the Royal Gazette, and the revised rules will take effect 15 days after that publication. Travelers already in Thailand under the current visa-free rule can stay until their permitted period ends.

## What travelers should know

Moroccan travelers should check the latest Thai entry requirements before booking and again before departure. If a visa is needed after the change takes effect, Thailand’s official eVisa portal is the government channel to use, and the Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat’s visa checklist asks for a passport valid for at least 6 months, a flight reservation, accommodation proof and financial evidence.

## Why this matters

For Moroccan citizens, this is a move from a simple visa-free short stay to a pre-trip visa process. That can affect trip timing, airline planning and the documents travelers need to prepare, especially for anyone who had been relying on the 60-day stay introduced in 2024.

## Apply now

Moroccan passport holders who need to apply for a Thai visa once the revision is in force should use the official eVisa portal: [thaievisa.go.th](https://www.thaievisa.go.th/).
