Angola tourist visa applications have moved from the former smevisa.gov.ao portal to evisa.ao. The replacement system is open for applications and brings account-based filing, electronic payment, case tracking and email delivery of approved entry visas.

Tourist and business applicants must create a personal account, complete the online form and upload supporting documents. The official portal advertises a 72-hour processing target, but an application becomes valid and starts processing only once electronic payment is confirmed. According to Angola’s Migration and Foreigners Service, paid service fees are non-refundable. The terms allow one free correction per application, while additional corrections may require a new application and another payment.

Who is affected

The change applies to travelers with ordinary passports who need a tourist or business visa. It does not alter Angola’s tourist visa exemption: eligible visitors remain visa-free for up to 30 days per entry and 90 days per calendar year. Diplomatic, official and courtesy visas continue through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Angolan diplomatic or consular missions.

Why Angola made the change

The new service is part of the Immigration and Foreigners Service’s modernization and digitalization program, intended to facilitate access and improve service delivery. Angola’s Ministry of the Interior identifies digitalization as part of the wider program.

What travelers should do

Before paying, applicants should check the portal because its public fee schedule does not display amounts. Required documents listed include a passport, a yellow fever vaccination certificate, round-trip travel and accommodation evidence, and proof of sufficient funds. The new eVisa homepage requires at least six months of passport validity. An older official FAQ says one year and four blank pages, but it refers to the older sme.gov.ao system. Travelers should retain submission and payment confirmation. Approved entry visas are sent by email and should be presented on arrival. The portal accepts account registrations, but successful end-to-end payment has not yet been independently tested.
